2005-06 TERRAPIN BASKETBALL NERVE CENTER SENIOR STAFF

There is a gleam...

Freekin ESPN U, what a crock. I can't justify spending even more $$$ to see what might be 3-5 games a year I care about. Waiting on a bootleg tape from Yanik or one of my other sources. With that said, listened to much of it on the radio and have spoken to those there...

First of all, for this one game, the stars were alligned. Terps coming of an embarrasing home loss, Tigers coming in defeated and getting then #1 Tar Heels next. Almost every gambling site/pundit had the Terps even giving 3.5 points. With that said, the Terps played well, and showed much more desire as evidenced by a 35-29 edge on the boards (though Clemson still got way to many (18) offensive boards). They also clearly practiced their shots since the Miami loss, big improvements there - only Osby at 0-1 was the only Terp below 50% for the game. Also only four 3-pointers taken in the game while Gist/Ibekwe go 13-18. Turnovers still high - 20 - and Vasquez/Hayes will need to value possessions against UVS, going into what looks like a very hostile atmosphere and up against a tough backcourt.

Good game, a must win especially with several road games on the horizon, at Virginia next.

I can report in from Comcast. I didn't even know the game was on ESPNU until Saturday morning, so very glad I had picked this game as one of the 3 or so i will go to you this year... ESPNU sucks, period.

Likes: DJ's playmaking. Not sure how many assists he had but if you got an assist for every time you made a pass to an open player that was fouled while attempting a layup he must have had 15. Gist. I have been saying this for years, kids going to be a star. Very heady player. Very efficient. My Silver Spring bias aside I just love his game. The anti Caner Medley (who was at the game and got very little love from the crowd).

Dislikes: Vasquez's blinders. Dude dribbles way too much. Can't let him run the point anymore. Brings the ball up court. Dribbles around the perimeter to the left, back to the right. Like a kid on the playground who isn't sure who is on his team so he is just going to dribble for 25 seconds until he jacks up a shot or figures out one guy he is sure he can pass it to. I don't like it, don't like it at all. Hayes's lack of strength/balls. They were just bumping him off the ball. Like a 12 year old trying to play with the high school kids. I love his game, his shot is nasty, but he seems scared out there. Can't be that way. He needs to spend the next summer in SE with Arenas learning to be a real man. Needs some swagger. If only we could merge the two freshman into one super freshman....

Virginia is terrible we own them like they wish they still owned slaves. VT shall be a stiffer test. I'm thinking 9-7 in conference is doable, this next week should tell us a lot.
